Cleveland’s Deutscher Musik Verein was founded in 1967 as the Deutsche
Musikschule with Stefan Bell as president and Herbert Kusper as director. As
Mr. Bell recalled in a recent interview, the early struggles to fund the
Musikschule have paid off handsomely. Hundreds of music students of all ages
have received private lessons and played with the organization’s various
performing groups all over the years, including the 30-piece German brass band
which has been known since 1992 as the Deutscher Musik Verein, or auf English,
the German Music Society.
